Canadian pet supply chain Petcetera is going out of business. It was Petcetera's corporate philosophy not to sell dogs, cats, and rabbits, but instead to help animal shelters and rescue groups find new homes for pets by providing in-store adoption centres. This was a very successful program.
The B.C. SPCA is now in trouble because it no longer has Petcetera's help. The Vancouver shelter is overcrowded with cats. Some are being housed in the dog section due to lack of space. Stress can result in illness and this can spread rapidly in an overcrowded shelter.
The B.C. SPCA is requesting help from people willing to foster cats until they can be adopted.
